What Makes a Perfect Yorker

The yorker is cricket's most decisive delivery. Here is how modern bowlers practice, disguise, and execute it under pressure.

What Makes a Perfect Yorker

A full toss is a gift. A half-volley is an invitation. But a yorker landing at the base of the stumps is almost unplayable. In the death overs, it is the delivery every bowler wants and every batter fears.

The skill of repetition

Modern bowlers use targets, video analysis, and deliberate practice to build a yorker they can land at will. The best — Malinga, Bumrah, Starc — make it look instinctive. It is not. It is the result of thousands of repetitions.

If you bowl two good yorkers, you have earned the right to try a slower one.
